During the past decade, Trace Marie & Blue Level have established themselves as one of central Ohio’s premier alternative pop bands. They were nominated in 2015 and 2017 for "Best Band in Columbus" by 614 Magazine's ColumBest. With the June 2014 release entitled, Raleigh Scattering, they recorded at their own Arch City Recording Studio. A celebration of the CD’s launch was hosted by Natalie’s (5601 North High Street) to a sold out crowd on June 8, 2014. They continue to work in the same studio on their latest album to be completed in 2017.

Presenting stylish originals as well as fresh interpretations of the classics, the live music of Blue Level is as versatile as the audiences they captivate.  Performing as a duo/trio, the band builds an intimacy with the audience in smaller settings.  They are equally at ease performing as a seven-piece band in front of crowds. That flexibility and wide appeal is the result of years spent sharpening their craft at festivals, clubs, restaurants, and private events.

Rayleigh Scattering finds Trace Marie & Blue Level stretching out, morphing their vision with a broad range of local styles to claim new territory. “When we began this project in the autumn of 2014, we wanted to capture the legacy of music in our city,” says Trace Marie. “Our solution – our evolution – has been to blend that legacy with our own funky groove. Textured and soulful, this music is what Columbus brings out in us.”  They continue to be eager to rock their unique interpretation of the ‘Columbus Sound’.

The band features seasoned musicians including vocalist Trace Marie, saxophonist Craig Fernandez, drummer Los Giles, keyboardistAndrew Wade, bassist Adam Koltnow, percussionist Russ Frost, and guitarist/composer Bradley Scott. Collectively, they bring an emotive energy and passion to the music that engages sophisticated music fans as well as casual listeners.

SILENT BELL : INSTRUMENTAL JAZZ - Expanding the Palette of Jazz in Columbus

Expanding the Palette of Jazz in Columbus

January 2017 (Columbus, Ohio)

Combining a blend of jazz styles, Silent Bell Quartet is a new project from a familiar group of Columbus music scene veterans. The band was showcased last summer as part of the line-up of the Jazz Series at M, a Cameron Mitchell restaurant in downtown Columbus. Tossing out older jazz standards, they have developed their instrumental re-imaginations of early legacy album-oriented rock.  Original compositions are included to launch their sets into new landscapes.

Silent Bell Quartet consists of members of the central Ohio band Trace Marie & Blue Level. Their versatility of influences, drawn together by Craig Fernandez’s sax improvisational flow, creates a sonic appeal that will break new ground, adding to the landscape of great live music in central Ohio. Guitarist, Bradley Scott notes, “We’ve performed an evolving mix of familiar pop and original songs for over 10 years now.  The experience has led us to expand our sound in a new direction. We’re proud to be part of Columbus’ musical tradition and ready to add some new spice to the stew with this latest instrumental project.”

Tenor and soprano saxophonist Craig Fernandez states, “Our arrangements are built on choosing great compositions from a particular era of rock and pop in the 1960s and 1970s.  I like to approach our songs like a vocalist. An element of what I am attempting to do is to sing the melody with my saxophone. ” Bassist, Adam Koltnow mentions, “These chill, tasteful tunes are perfect for many venues while giving the listener a new way to view the heritage of a jazz standard.”  Discover more and contact Silent Bell Quartet at
